Livelihood Project Implementation Ongoing in Tubig Basag, Tawi-Tawi

Bongao, Tawi-Tawi | April 8, 2025
— The Office for Settler Communities (OSC) conducted an ocular inspection at the Tubig Basag Multi-Purpose Producer Cooperative in Barangay Tubig Basag, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi, confirming that the cooperative’s livelihood project is now in its implementation phase and steadily progressing.

Sawadjaan J. Manulon, Community Development Officer of OSC-Tawi-Tawi, led the visit to follow up on the project proposal endorsed by MP Dr. Susana Salvador Anayatin, Member of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) Parliament and Executive Director of the OSC, in February 2023. The proposal was submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR) through the recommendation of the outgoing Senior Minister.

In November 2024, MAFAR officially turned over the approved assistance package to the cooperative, which has since launched its poultry livelihood initiative. The inspection confirmed the active raising of Rhode Island broiler chickens, with an initial stock of 100 heads already in place, indicating promising early outcomes.

“The project is now operational and showing great potential,” said Manulon. “We are pleased with how the cooperative is utilizing the support and staying true to its objectives.”

The OSC will continue to monitor the project’s progress and provide technical support in collaboration with MAFAR and other relevant agencies to ensure long-term success and sustainability. A noted challenge was the insufficient supply of laying mass, which the office plans to address through appropriate interventions.

This initiative forms part of the OSC’s broader mission to empower settler communities and advance inclusive development throughout the Bangsamoro region.
